RIP Ciarán Murphy

On July 4 th , the members of Sunday’s Well RFC were shocked at the sudden death of our dear friend
Ciaran Murphy (or MURF as he was lovingly called).
Ciaran passed away at his summer house in Caherdaniel, Co. Kerry.
A club member for over 50 years, Ciaran was a “Well Man” to the core, having played with the club
from the age of 13. He won numerous trophies with the juvenile section and was captain when the
club won the first ever Pfizer 7-a side rugby competition in the early 1980’s. Ciaran also won an All-
Ireland u/15 hurling medal with Blackrock Hurling Club.
When Ciaran retired from playing he began coaching with the 3 rd XV, and from there he was
instrumental in reforming the underage section in the club in 1994. Ciaran also served on the
executive committee for many years.
Above all, Ciaran was a wonderful family man and loved talking about Christine, Aoife, Jenny and
Tom. He was very proud of their achievements and always enjoyed the opportunities they had
together in Caherdaniel.
Ciaran will be greatly missed by all in the club, but nothing compared to the sad loss to Christine,
Aoife, Jenny and Tom, and his brothers Tom, Brendan and sister Deirdre.
May Ciaran Rest in Peace.
